Was going through chrome's introduction from google. Surprisingly, they
have used java's "hot cup of coffee" logo to represent javascript.

    Theory of Probability made Easy
    Q. What is the probability of rain which was pouring like forever and got you all drenched, STOPS
as soon as you reach home?
    A . 100%

    Q. What is the probability of you driving into a rain water covered pothole of just 2 ft wide in
    a road of width 100ft?
    A. Please do not try to calculate...its 100%

    Q. A train you take regularly "ALWAYS" leaves the station 15-20 mins late and whenever you are
usually are present in the station early. What is the probability that it will leave ON TIME,
the only day when you reached the station 1 min late?
    A. 100% again

    Q. what is the probability that a Band-Aid plaster, which you used to see in your desk drawer
whenever you opened it, is NOT FOUND on the day you had a knife cut?
    A. Yeh thats right!!..it is 100%

And all this time you thought probability was difficult!!

    In Philadelphia
Me currently in philadelphia, on a short work trip. Had to leave on a short notice.
The place where I stay is a country side and is very beautiful. Keeping up my grand tradition of forgetting things, this time I have forgot to bring the data cable of my camera. So until I find a store here to buy one, I cannot upload the photos until I come back.

    Trip to Orlando

    DSCN1719, originally uploaded by thejascr.

Had been to Orlando Last week to attend Symbol Worldwide Technical Conference. More than 250 tech engineers and 1400 sales engineers from around the world attended the event. It was a wonderful experience in many ways. Got to meet Bob Beach - Inventor of the Wireless Switch, UCA to name a few!! who gave a presentation on enabling innovation in organizations, and many other top inventors at symbol (well now its motorola..;-) ). I had my own presentation to make on some software that we had designed. I guess it came out well considering the interest shown by audience. The worst part was journey itself with more than 70 hours of it within 6 days. Still recovering from jetlag.

    Gyans!!!
Past one year in Symbol has been a great learning experience...Both in terms of tech and non-tech.
Here are some popular aphorisms which my Director keeps repeating at every available opportunity and has made
    me "realize" it atleast partially..

    1. Never ASSUME.... Assume is just ASS U ME...
    2. Vision without Execution is Hallucination
    3. Learn to Say No when you have to say No
    4. There are many solutions to any given problem...some are excellent but practically not feasible,
some are easy to implement but they miss use cases...choose the optimal ones.
    5. Try to solve the problem in front of you...not world hunger..

    Time Travel !!!
We have heard many instances where in people say that they had actually foreseen some place or some instances, which they later came across in real life. Also in our epics, we have countless instances wherein many sages, and great men actually know the future and reveal it to others before they happen.

Does it mean our mind in "some state" (though not physical state) can actually foresee the future ??. Is it the key to "time travel" ? (I dont want to refer to this as time "Machine" coz Materials add a lot of complexity to this)

Lets assume it is..and lets imagine we have the power to travel in time domain...

The first question that comes to the mind is "What if someone changes the past and invalidates the future?"
    (Also referred in Ganaraj's Blog)

There is an interesting story in our epic "Mahabharatha" which discusses exactly this. King Janamejaya ( Last king of "kuru" vamsha and grandson of Abhimanyu) approaches sage vyasa and asks this exact question.
In reply Vyasa tells him that even though one can know the future and past, one cannot do anything about it. Janamejaya disputes this saying "one can always control his future if its known before hand". He also challenges vyasa to reveal his (janmejaya's) future so that he can change it on his own.
Vyasa smiles at this and reveals to janamejaya one full year ahead of him.
What happens in that one year is a long and wonderful story. But at the end janamejaya accepts that "one cannont change one's fate".

So does that mean time travel is "Read-Only" ??

    Helmet with Wiping blades!!!
I rarely use helmet , but today somehow felt like using it. It was raining when i left home and one discomfort I felt was that the rain water on the wind shield was disrupting my vision. Suddenly an idea of helmets having wipers came to my mind..I came to office and googled for it. To my surprise theres not even a single helmet in market available with Wiper blades. But i found that, this idea already existed and was submitted to Creativity Pool.

    patentable ..uh..?

    SYMBOL collaborates with WINGS!!!
My efforts regarding WINGS got some great encouragement last week, when my director in SYMBOL agreed to collaborate with the the wireless research group i had started in college. SYMBOL is now a partner of WINGS!!!. The direcotor appriciated my initiative and gave me some Wireless devices( A wireless switch and an Access port) to loan it to the college as a good will gesture. He also promised to do more if he gets positive responce from the College.

I also met the WINGS core members in college on saturday and they seem to be very excited about this. They have also started a regular WINGS session on every saturday where they will discuss various Wireless related topics.

Also since the IS labs are getting revamped, TNN has promised to give a portion of it to WINGS. If this really happens it would be a great boost our efforts. But its still a promise ;-).

Btw something for Nokia guys...There are some efforts going on to rope in Nokia as a WINGS partner...I request you guys to catalyse the efforts so that WINGS can have one more great Partner.

    Is Alexander Great...?
Alexander has been always referred to as "Alexander the great"....But is he really grt..?
After all what did he do..? Did he rule his kingdom even for one day..? The only thing he did
is killing people...If that makes him great then even Hitler must be called great...
The only difeerence is Alexander won his battles where as Hitler Lost...Imagine how
the narration of World War ..and the fate of the world ...would have changed if only Hitler had won the war...

    VTU!!!!!!!!!:O
I am in a sort of dilemma as to whether to be happy or sad...and the reason for this dilemma is our very own VTU!!!. Happy because I got 25 marks more after revaluation in Computer networks.(48 to 73 and total from 81.4% to 84%). Sad because it didnt come earlier (which i think i very much deserved..:-((). I had to listen to everyone saying "ayyo yake..ast kammi..". Thank god.. I had atleast passed. Imagine the fate of students who have failed due to such irresponsible evaluations...I think its time VTU people take serious action against such evaluators..

    sjce now has WINGS!!!!

I am extremely happy to inform you all that in our college we have started  new research group called WINGS (Wireless INnnovation Group of SJCE)

It is a group aimed at carrying out both learning and research in various aspects of wireless Networks.
I had put it in my blog some days back(actually some months back;-))

    http://www.livejournal.com/~thejascr/1381.html

the importance of studying wireless networks and its potential to change the networking scenario around the world. This group will work (at a very abstract level though) to achieve this dream of true ubiquitous computing.

The group started with a small group of 18 members now has more than 80 members who are keen on working in wireles Networks.

more info on the works of the group can be got at WINGS.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome. I hope this group grows into one of the best in the world in the years to come.
